Philosophy

Philosophy

Imagine a place dedicated to life, emotion, beauty…
Imagine a house full of life that can talk, hear, see…
Imagine a little planet of dreams…
Imagine a free and wild animal in the heart of Paris…

Éléphant Paname is an art and dance center.

Private, independent, free.
At ÉP you can discover exhibitions, concerts, conferences, shows. Éléphant Paname is open for any style and field. It can go from prehistoric art to modern installations. There’s only one requirement: all application areas must be treated with great rigor. Three areas with different styles are dedicated to visual arts and various events.

There is no life without movement.

There is no life without movement.
ÉP offers five comfortable, modern dance studios. The quality of our equipment is fundamental to us. Separate changing rooms for women and men, professional dance parquet and Harlequin linoleum… Our regular classes and workshops unite any type of dance, from ballet to hip hop and also all levels, from beginner to advanced. In our studios you can also host your rehearsals, castings, shootings and much more… For all kinds of performing art.

ÉP is an atypical place, a house of arts always in movement, where work, emotion and discovery define the everyday life.

LAURENT FIAT

« …The spirit of Éléphant Paname unites all forms of art and ideas… We only expose artists and works we like and we’re touched by… »

Laurent was trained in drawing and painting at the Atelier Nicolas Poussin, did painting and fresco restoration in Florence and is a painter and sculptor. Laurent’s main principles are to resist to the general conformism, insurge artistically but also to share, enjoy, impart and create a platform. The dream is to open a house dedicated to art, even or maybe especially in a world of crisis, because art is rescue and suggests different solutions. The ideal is to benefit from one’s high profile to accentuate someone else’s talent to strive together for the unseen, unexpected, poetic, moving, living.

FANNY FIAT

« ... Éléphant Paname is a place for all kinds of dance and dancers, but also musicians, actors that come for rehearsals or to take classes in the most various sorts of performing arts… »

She was part of the opera, she was a student of Noëlla Pontois, she danced the most important classical ballets and was a member of the Julien Lestel dance company from Marseille. From her many years at the Opéra Paris, she learned that talent does not content itself with approximation, that tenacious work makes the difference and to do your best you need to slip away from the temptation of making too big steps. That is the origin of grace, the appearance of emotion.
Here for an optimal working condition is indispensable. Well-appointed studios like at Éléphant Paname should be inspiring to all dancers and scene artists.
Creating a place where energy flows and projects are implemented is a dream coming true.

A place, a story

A place, a story

A townhouse that became a bank and then an art and dance center...

AN OLD TOWNHOUSE

The building in Rue Volney that became Éléphant Paname was built under Napoléon III by Russian diplomat Alexis Soltykoff. This art enthusiast was a real personality of his century. His collections of weapons and medieval objects were bequeathed the French general government and are today shown at the Pierrefonds castle in Oise.

Why Éléphant Paname?

Paris builders fantasized about the elephant throughout the 19th century. What a romantic dream! For several years an enormous elephant was to be built instead of the actual column at the Bastille (which, in turn, was provocatively designated the esthetics of a stovepipe by Victor Hugo). The giant mockup at la Bastille that which soon neglected became the home of Gavroche in Hugo’s « Les Miserables ». In 1758, before the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, there was another elephant to be built at the Place de l’Étoile. The huge animal was to host a ballroom and a theater. So the link between the elephant, performing arts and Paris is deep-seated. But the pachyderm always remained fantasy as the builders dropped out in last minute.
